How to Activate Your Capital One Debit Card

Have your card ready

Locate your new Capital One debit card. You’ll need the card number and may need your account details.

Go to capitalone.com/activate

Visit capitalone.com/activate in your browser.

Sign in to your Capital One account

Enter your username and password for your Capital One 360 checking account. If you don’t have an online account yet, click Enroll & activate and follow the prompts.

Find your debit card

Your 360 checking account and linked debit card will appear on your dashboard. Select your debit card to activate it.

Confirm and activate

Follow the on-screen prompts to verify your identity and click Activate. Your card is now active.

Set Your PIN After Activation

Before you can use your debit card at ATMs or for PIN-based purchases in stores, you need to create a 4-digit PIN. Here’s how to do it through each channel:

Option 1 — At an ATM

Insert your newly activated debit card into any Capital One or Allpoint ATM. When prompted, select Set PIN or PIN Change, then enter and confirm your new 4-digit PIN.

Option 2 — Online (account settings)

Sign in to your Capital One account at capitalone.com. Go to Account settings → Card settings → Set PIN, then follow the prompts to create your PIN.

Option 3 — By phone

Call the number printed on the back of your debit card. Choose the PIN setup option from the automated menu and follow the voice prompts.
Never write your PIN on your card or keep it in the same wallet or bag. Memorize it, or store it securely using a password manager.

What You Can Do After Activation

Once your debit card is active and your PIN is set, you can:
  • Make purchases anywhere Mastercard or Visa is accepted (signature-based, no PIN required)
  • Withdraw cash at fee-free ATMs nationwide
  • Pay bills and make transfers within your Capital One 360 account online
  • Add your debit card to a digital wallet for contactless payments
