How to Activate Your Capital One Credit Card

Visit capitalone.com/activate

Go to capitalone.com/activate on your computer, tablet, or smartphone.

Sign in or enroll

  • Existing account: Click Sign in & activate and enter your username and password.
  • New to online banking: Click Enroll & activate and create your account.

Select your credit card

After signing in, your new credit card will appear on the dashboard. Click on it to begin activation.

Verify your identity

Confirm your last 4 SSN digits and/or date of birth as prompted.

Activate and start using your card

Click Activate. Your card is immediately ready for purchases, both in-store and online.

Activate Quickly to Unlock Your Sign-Up Bonus

Many Capital One credit cards offer a welcome bonus — such as cash back or bonus miles — after you spend a certain amount in the first few months. Your bonus clock starts the day your account is approved, not when you activate. Activate your card as soon as it arrives so you have the maximum time to reach the spending threshold and earn your bonus.

What Unlocks After Credit Card Activation

Once your credit card is active, you can:
